Gifted and Talented students from Montpelier primary school have been studying ‘How to maintain a healthy heart’ and approached saltash.net because they were hoping to be able to take part in a real heart dissection.

Fifteen very excited and enthusiastic mini scientists from Montpelier joined saltash.net teacher of science, Mrs Katie Palmer, for a heart stopping lesson. They were able to use finger pulse recorders, blood pressure cuffs and then get their (gloved) hands dirty inside a cow’s heart and lamb’s organs. The students were very positive about the school and were keen to show Headteacher, Mrs Bryce, when she visited, that they were ‘bright enough’ to come to the school next year!

Max, the school dog, who took part in the lesson, was impeccably behaved and managed to restrain himself from stealing all the bloody organs… and all the students loved him.

Montpelier Primary School Teacher, Mr Hill, who accompanied the children said, ‘Our pupils were made to feel really welcome and felt that the school was pleased to have them visit which also led to a very positive experience. The children were made to think and were allowed to ask questions, and returned to school buzzing! The children loved every minute and especially enjoyed meeting the school dog.’
