Gabrielle Hardwick, currently a second year Psychology student at Bournemouth University, returned to her old school, saltash.net, to lead assemblies for Years 7-11 at the start of the Spring Term and New Year 2015.

As a result of studying modules on Child Psychology as part of her undergraduate course, Gabrielle has become involved with an international charity ‘East Africa Playgrounds’ which is committed to providing specialist play equipment for children across the country of Uganda.

saltash.net already has links with Uganda through the Pearl of Africa children’s choir (who have visited the school on two occasions) so was pleased to respond to Gabrielle’s request for funding support.

Gabi’s assemblies focused not just on the importance of the work of the charity and what she would be doing as a volunteer during her visit this June, but also on the learning journey she had been on throughout GCSEs, A Levels and now university. She emphasised the importance of 100% effort and determination if you want to achieve your goals, ambitions and dreams.

The school will be presenting Gabi with a cheque for £400 from non-uniform day profits in order to help the work of the ‘East African Playgrounds Charity’. It is hoped that Gabi will be able to return again at a later date to share her experiences of participating in the volunteer project in Uganda.
