A Level German students at saltash.net have been cooking up a storm, taking part in a German themed bake off challenge.

The hard fought competition was won by Year 13 student, Mark Hall, whose Deutscher käse- kuchen (German cheesecake) impressed the judging panel, which was formed from current students and staff.  Mark was rewarded with a £20 Waterstones gift voucher for his baking prowess.

Second place went to Year 13 student, Tim Pook, who had baked a Zitronen überaschung (a lemon surprise).

Rounding off the podium was Year 12’s Josh Wanless, who had prepared a Weiße Schokolade Crème brulé mit Baileys (White chocolate Crème brûlée with Baileys).

Tim and Josh received £10 and £5 Waterstones vouchers respectively.

Noteworthy mentions go to the other competitors, Marie Hall, Frau Carr and Frau Kramer, and Zac Hyams whose Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte (Black Forest cake) unfortunately collapsed.

As Zac could no longer win the competition, he was added to the judging panel, alongside fellow students Joe Day and Dan Frankland, and teachers Mr Killeya, Mr Rowe and Mr Budd.

After the competition, Head of Languages, Mr Rowe expressed how happy he was at the competition.

“I was delighted to see so many different cultures represented by such an obviously open-minded and intelligent group of people. I’m a sucker for cheesecake!” he said.
