Saltash.net community school was delighted to launch this year’s Children’s University Passport initiative for our new Year 7 students recently, with a fantastic number of parents and students attending to hear more about it.

Children’s University is a national programme where children from the ages of 5-14 are encouraged to take part in extracurricular activities, collecting stamps in their ‘Passport to Learning’. Children are presented with certificates in school for reaching certain targets, and are invited to a ‘graduation ceremony’ held annually to celebrate their achievements if they reach gold level.

Julian True, Head of the Children’s University at the University of Plymouth, explained its benefits and role in improving employability and future opportunities whilst the audience enjoyed cream teas. He explained the importance of aspiring to go to university, as well as how the initiative can contribute to making this a possibility.

George Seymour, one of saltash.net’s Head Students, spoke about his journey and the opportunities that he had taken, which was so aspirational for saltash.net’s younger students to hear.

It was also lovely to hear from Year 8 students Mia Rhodes, Tobe Fielding, Lewis Wilmott, Hannah Kennington and Henry Lambert-Gorwyn, who have been involved in the programme. They spoke about the extra-curricular activities that they have logged in their Passport, developing their confidence and role modelling the skills that they have developed through the initiative.

If you would like your son or daughter to be part of the Children’s University, which is free and open to all, or you would like more information, please contact Head of Careers, Mrs Gue, by emailing egue@saltashcloud.net.
