One in three UK employers said that they value “soft” skills as being more important than academic qualifications. (UK manager’s poll of over 500 companies by DofE in 2018)

Employers, apprenticeship schemes and universities really value the DofE Awards.

  • This is because they help to teach you:
    • self-reliance
    • teamwork
    • leadership
    • planning
    • problem solving

What does the Award Entail?

  • Three months of each of these sections:
    • Volunteering
    • Skill
    • Physical
  • Then a further 3 months of just one of them (so you will do two of them for 3 months and one of them for 6 months)
  • An expedition or hike and camp for 2 days and 1 night.

What does the Duke of Edinburgh Award at Saltash Community School look like and how do I get started?

  1. Take a letter home and speak to your parents. The cost is £50 to register and to pay towards the upkeep and replacement of the kit we use.
  2. Return the letter and consent form to Mr Feldwick in PE and wait for the payment to open up on Parent Pay.
  3. Start to think about what you would like to do for each of the three sections.

There will be DofE club meetings every other Friday.
